My name is Maartje Schalkx and I specialise in the conservation and restoration of works of art on paper. I received a BA in Fine Art from the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, and graduated with Distinction from the MA in Conservation at Camberwell College in London. I have over a decade of experience working with private collectors, galleries, art dealers, artists, framers and public institutions, as well as individuals with one-off pieces that require care. For the past eight years I have been one half of Foley Schalkx Conservation Ltd, a successful conservation practice in London.
Clients I have worked for include: Gagosian Gallery, Serpentine Gallery, Victoria Miro, Wellcome Collection, Whitechapel Gallery and White Cube.
Originally from the Netherlands, I have lived in the UK for over 20 years, largely in Glasgow and London. I have now settled in Liverpool. My studio, in the historic Bluecoat building, aims to cover conservation needs across the North.
The studio is open by appointment Thursdays and Fridays 09:30 - 17:00. To book an appointment please get in touch via hello@schalkxconservation.com or on 078 8690 1015.
